This Blog is intended to document my travels, mostly via my Motorcycles, a 2002 Honda 1800 Gold Wing for Touring and a BMW F650 GS Dual Sport for Adventure and dirt roads. I just added a 2005 Ural GearUp to the stable, just for FUN!

After the trail, Tom who lives in VT, suggested we do Smugglers Notch and then Stowe before we broke up for home. He led us on a nice scenic tour on some great Twisty roads.
Peggy is from the "Chain Gang" (f650.com), a forum for the F650 BMW. We had never met but we had conversed on the forum and she was close to where we were staying. She had contacted us to meet and have dinner before our departure. She arrived just after 6pm, we kicked tires a bit inthe parking lot before heading in to town for dinner. It was a pleasant evening and great to meet Peggy. She had just done this ride about a month prior. After dinner she headed home, Dave and I gassed up the bikes and headed up to get some sleep.

As we neared the end of the first day, we were pleased with the scenery, the roads and the weather. It was a good day of off road riding. The route had us crossing the Floating Bridge in VT. It was closed earlier this season to traffic as it is actually sinking now so we plotted a detour around it. We did stop to see it before we went to the camp ground. We took a short break, walked around the area and snapped a few photo's before headed around to our campsite at Allis State Park.
The campground was very nice and we went and picked a site out in a field away from the roads. After setting up camp, we ran in to the nearest convenience store and grabbed some food. Picking up some firewood, we returned and had a small fire before turning in.

Even with several photo op's and a few scenic stops, we finished up the north Section earlier than planned, ending around 2:15. It was early enough that we decided to abort the 2nd camping night and go ahead and start heading home.
Or should I say, "Mud is Fun!" We spent Friday (after an all night rain Thursday) exploring a trail I found! There were 3 of us, Dave, Yigal and myself. I slid out a couple times and saw plenty of mud from too close! It was a fun day, though wet and muddy. We got a pretty good ways down the trail before deciding that it was really beyond our safe passing with DS tires instead of a more agressive knobby tire. We want to go back and explore it further when it is dryer...
Sunday, Dave and I drove down to MA to pick up some spare parts. Upon our return, we worked on our bikes a bit and then headed out to a couple areas he found. One was hilly, wooded, rugged and rocky. Very good "technical" practice and we did well. This was tougher than most stuff we would run into normally.
Then we shifted to a hilly area, soft and steep.. the first hill was not too bad, down was ok and the next we had no business being near. Dave almost made and tipped near the top. I walked up and we got him turned around and headed back out. I got hung up, stalled and then buried the rear wheel on the way out. We had to lift the bike out of the soft groove that I dug, then I got restarted and made it up.
As we left, 2 fellows on "dirt bikes" were coming in and looked at us like we had no business in there on our bikes. They were probably right!
Getting ready now for the Adventure in VT!

The 2nd leg was about 48 miles back to Roaring Brook.

I did some route planning today for a Dual Sport ride later in the week. Today I headed out in the morning along the Schoon River and managed to find a couple gravel roads along the river. I even managed to see a deer off in the field. (Later in the afternoon I saw another as she ran across the road in front of me.)
Ride safe...

We just arrived back home from Rolling Thunder XXI in Washington DC. Leaving on Thursday, and returning Tuesday, it was a full weekend.
The Vigil Friday night was very moving and we were honored to have in our presence that night 2 daughters of men who gave all in Vietnam, Trish Burnett and Samantha Clough.
The demonstration run was great, well attended and think the government knows we are there and are not goinbg away until all our missing are accounted for.
There was a dampening of our spirits this year... Lisa Robicheau was killed in a motorcycle accident on her way to DC. She will be forever missed by us all. I am leaving shortly to attend the wake with the rest of the Rolling Thunder NH Chapter.

I also ran an add in Craigslist to sell my Shadow. I had several inquiry's and one fellow even stopped by work to see it.
Friday I rode the GS to work... first real day to ride it. It felt good and I loved the new panniers. I would recommend these to anyone. I had several more contact me on the Shadow and about 11:00, the fellow that looked at it yesterday called, and it is now SOLD!
Yes, I guess Xmas really can arrive in May!!
