Almost Ready... BUT!!??

One week to go and I am nearly ready, most of my stuff is packed in the bike, my clothes are packed, tracking is all set as is GPS and my route is all finalized except verifying gas stops.

Am I excited?? You bet! But for the first time I am also nervous, about the weather that is. Saturday was 8" of snow, last night was another 4" and the weather report indicated snow on Friday and again next Wednesday, my departure date.

Up till now, I have been so optimistic about the weather, I just knew the snow would be done, and while cold, the roads would be dry... Now I am not so sure. I know, alot can change on that forecast in a week... I just hope that it does!

The sign off on the forums lately has been "See you in Jacksonville!"

The Jott system allows...

The Jott system allows me to send messages to the Blog while I'm on the road on my motorcycle trips. This will work great for my Saddle Sore 1000 which I'm going to be doing next Wednesday on the 5th, down to Jacksonville Florida. listen
The Jott system uses my cell phone and I can call in and leave a short message which is transcripted to Text and posted to my Blog!! Technology is great. I will be able to send a short message about my condition, weather and roads and how I am doing at each of my stops. That in conjunction with my Tracking System will keep friends and family fully updated on my trip.

Tracking Service Re-Activated

As I had not been traveling since Thanksgiving, I had allowed my tracking phone and the Accu-Track service to both become inactive.

With my Jacksonville trip just around the corner, I reactivated both services yesterday before I left for work, then turned on the tracking and let it run all day. As I checked the webpage thoughout the day, it all seemed to work fine. The movements to work, at lunch and after work all tracked accurately. The charger maintained power level and I was satisfied with the test, placing all the components back into the storage spot for my gear knowing it is ready to go.

I still have to transmit the Tracking web to the Forums and my friends, also this blog page to them at the same time. I also still have to check out the JOTT voice service linked to the Blog. I will do that later this week.

More snow coming in tonight... hope I cna get a clear window out of here in 3 weeks!

IBA Cert!

Yesterday in the mail, I got an envelope from the IBA (Iron Butt Assoc) and I knew it was good news... either a letter that my SS 1000 was approved, or if real lucky, it wold be the actual Cert.

Luck was with me this day... it was the actual Cert for my SS 1000 I did on Labor day.... The IBA has been behind somewhat the last year and half or so but making excellent progress in catching up. This was only about 4 months since I sent the paperwork in which is not that back considering how many are done and what they must do to verify..

I am happy to wait a bit knowing that the process of certication is full, complete and handled with integrity.. You cannot just buy into this group, you earn it!

Getting Ready For Jacksonville!

Been a while since I posted anything here... but now I am looking for my first trip of 2008!

I am planning to do the MTF Ride IN to the IBA Party in Jacksonville... The Party is Friday the 7th, I plan to leave work on teh 5th and head down near Newburg or Middletown NY. I will get some sleep their and pull out early Thursday am for a SS 1000 down to Jacksonville, currently looks to be about 1075 miles.

The biggest issue will be the weather here in NH and New England. We just got more snow and this is less than 4 weeks away. I have picked upa Tourmaster Transition II Jacket and a Warm & Safe heated Liner along with heated gloves. That gear along with face protection and thermals with layering should keep me warm enough. ( I am hoping)

I have a full check list done and am gathering everything together now so I account for all I think I will need. I do plan to have all the tracking services and JOTT active for whern I make the trip. It will probably be a week or 2 before I re-activate them all.

I am excited about this one.. an SS1000, meet up with many of the MTF that I only see once in a blue moon... got my party tickets, my hotel room and just counting the days... say a little prayer for no snow!
