Exploring in Southern NH

Over on adv.com has been a thread about some good off road locations near me. I headed out alone to explore a little of them today. Did a nice little loop... Picked up the South Chester TP and yes, its all paved... headed north, cutoff on Raymond Road (dirt) and then it turned into a trail mostly... narrow, some soft stuff and loose rock. It looks very promising but being alone, I backed to the Chester TP and continued North.

Start of TP

Raymond Road

Raymond road narrows

Heading back North, I came to the start of the dirt on the CTP, just North of route 27. You can see the end ahead, the road is gated right at Candia road ... so I made the right on Candia... saw the house mentioned in an earlier post on ADV and the road narrowed up from that point on. Just a short ways down was a fork, left appeared clearly marked Private (though later on the map the left fork looked like the road) and the right fork was downhill slightly and fully leaf covered. Being alone, I reversed direction and headed back towards the North entry to the Chester TP.

Where CTP turns to dirt

My bike at the fork, before turning...

When I got up to the North section of Chester,it was also gated... I was a little disappointed as these were mentioned on the forum and I expected that they were open. Anyway, I headed back towards home... I looked at the Epping links provided on the forum, but it was gonna be getting late for that. Decided to head back where I found Raymond Road and take the dirt east... There was not much there, wide graded and short before hitting pavement so I headed down by Lake Massabesic ... and then Rte 121 down to 102 to head home... By the LakeI stumbled on two more sections of the turnpike, one off of Candia Road and the other just north of 102. The first went back a ways and might be worth exploring more... The 2nd was short and marked as a dead end.

All in all, a good day... cool but dry...Not too many more good riding days left this season so we all need to make the best of them.Be safe...

Trans MA Trail

I put a post up on ADV.com and also sent a couple emails about wanting to ride the Trans MA Trail, the route layed out by Keith from ADV. None of my friends could make that weekend but we had a few resoponses during the week from ADV. I suspected we may get 4 or 5 riders including Keith who did the route. Saturday we received heavy rains and there was some concern about the morning of the ride, and also the condition of the roads.

Turned out to be a Great day.... Road to Winsted CT to the start point.. by the time 9:30 rolled around we had a total of 9 bikes.. KTM 990 Adventure, Vstrom, R1200GS, 2 F650GS's and 4 KLR's. All had knobbies except the 1200, the strom and my 650...

We spread out and basically each road their own ride.. Keith led and was followed by the faster riders and those who ran a more relaxed pace... (me and the strom!) stayed more rear ward. For the most part, we never lagged behind much, usually just when it got a little bit loose gravel or rocky... Keith would hold up when encountering an intersection until we were all re-grouped. It worked well and he did a nice job. The roads were great, and actually in better shape than I expected after the rain!! Not much different than the PDR or Baley Hazen. Once section was washed out pretty good and Keith led the strom around it, I did it without much trouble... just slowed a bit..

We stopped about noon for lunch, 3/4 of the way in. 4 of the bikes peeled off after lunch while 5 of us continued on to Greenfield. The strom left us in Greenfield as the last 4 of us did a section of the PDR up towards route 9.. splitting up there, Keith and I headed east and parted company at 91... I then took 9/7 and 101 back through Keene... arriving home about 6pm

Here is Keiths ride report with a few photos.. http://www.advrider.com/forums/showpost.php?p=7825394&postcount=43

Baley-Hazen Military Road

I had previously gotten data on this road from ADV.com and decided on August 25th that I would do either this or the Trans MA Trail over Labor day weekend. I put out a notice and Yigal responded and we discussed the 2 routes. I was flexible and after looking at the various mileages and info on the routes, we decided to do the Baley-Hazen on Sunday, September 7th.

Here is a link to info on the trail itself.... Interesting history... with a map..

It was gonna be over a 400 mile day, with 200 miles of that just the return home. Yigal and I met at 5am and rode to Wells River VT where we had breakfast at the P&H Truck Stop. Tom met us there just after 8am and we headed out on the trail after breakfast.

After the trail, Tom who lives in VT, suggested we do Smugglers Notch and then Stowe before we broke up for home. He led us on a nice scenic tour on some great Twisty roads.

Here is a short ride report I sent to ADV along with a few photo's...

When I got home, it was about 450 Miles and 14 1/2 hours!! A great time with some great company on some historic roadways!

Puppy Dog Ride Report

Ok, now that the ride is over and things have settled, it is time for a little recap of the weekend.

I had read much about the VT Puppy Dog Ride and gathered data from the website.Dave met me at my work at about 2:00pm on Thursday the 10th of July. We headed out, down to 101a in Nashua/Amherst and then picked up 122 to 130, to 13 down into MA where we hopped on Route 2 west. Our destination was Greenfield and the Super 8 Motel. We arrived there about 4:30, got checked in and then just hung out a bit until Peggy arrived.

Peggy is from the "Chain Gang" (f650.com), a forum for the F650 BMW. We had never met but we had conversed on the forum and she was close to where we were staying. She had contacted us to meet and have dinner before our departure. She arrived just after 6pm, we kicked tires a bit inthe parking lot before heading in to town for dinner. It was a pleasant evening and great to meet Peggy. She had just done this ride about a month prior. After dinner she headed home, Dave and I gassed up the bikes and headed up to get some sleep.

We were up early Friday morning, got our stuff packed up and ready to go. I had a cell phone issue that caused a slight delay but then we got on the road. It was expected to be warm and clear all day (and in fact all weekend). We had both the route sheets and also a GPS file. Later we would switch to Route sheet only)

Once on the trail, we were able to enjoy the scenery and the tranquility of the ride. During the morning ride, we got off route (via GPS) a couple different times. In both cases we discovered the deviation and then used the route sheet to get back on to the main route. From that point, it seemed that the GPS routing had some issues so we reverted to working primarily with the route sheet.

"On The Trail"
"One of the Covered Bridges"

"Our Lunch Stop"
"Back on the Trail"

As we neared the end of the first day, we were pleased with the scenery, the roads and the weather. It was a good day of off road riding. The route had us crossing the Floating Bridge in VT. It was closed earlier this season to traffic as it is actually sinking now so we plotted a detour around it. We did stop to see it before we went to the camp ground. We took a short break, walked around the area and snapped a few photo's before headed around to our campsite at Allis State Park.

The campground was very nice and we went and picked a site out in a field away from the roads. After setting up camp, we ran in to the nearest convenience store and grabbed some food. Picking up some firewood, we returned and had a small fire before turning in.

In the morning, we broke camp, headed out for a breakfast sandwich and fuel, then took to the trail again. The weather again looked to be on our side again with clear blue skies with just some white puffy clouds. Temperature was mild and I stayed with my mesh jacket.

The North section, in my opinion was a better ride. We are more into the Green Mountains and the scenery just seemed to be much better. There were many nice vista's as we climbed up out of wooded sections.

Some of the trails were also a bit more technical (re:difficult) and this was challenging to our riding skills. A couple of these are not much more than single tracks through the woods.

Along some of the ridges in the North was a lot of open farm land. You could look out from these clear areas and see for miles. Very breathtaking. The other added plus was the GPS routinhg semmed to be dead on. We made great time during this leg. Granted, some of the GPS issues yesterday were probably my fault, this made the 2nd day ride much smoother.

At one point, we crossed the Bayley Hazen Military Road. This will be the subject of a future ride and today, we crossed it at one section and traveled on it for a few miles.

This is an old road from the Revolution and a good percentage of it is still open today. I plan to do that before the summer is out.

Even with several photo op's and a few scenic stops, we finished up the north Section earlier than planned, ending around 2:15. It was early enough that we decided to abort the 2nd camping night and go ahead and start heading home.

A few hours later, we were back home safe and sound. Another successful adventure complete. Yet so many more to do.... now its time to Rest!

Practice Makes Perfect...

Or should I say, "Mud is Fun!" We spent Friday (after an all night rain Thursday) exploring a trail I found! There were 3 of us, Dave, Yigal and myself. I slid out a couple times and saw plenty of mud from too close!

It was a fun day, though wet and muddy. We got a pretty good ways down the trail before deciding that it was really beyond our safe passing with DS tires instead of a more agressive knobby tire. We want to go back and explore it further when it is dryer...

Sunday, Dave and I drove down to MA to pick up some spare parts. Upon our return, we worked on our bikes a bit and then headed out to a couple areas he found. One was hilly, wooded, rugged and rocky. Very good "technical" practice and we did well. This was tougher than most stuff we would run into normally.

Then we shifted to a hilly area, soft and steep.. the first hill was not too bad, down was ok and the next we had no business being near. Dave almost made and tipped near the top. I walked up and we got him turned around and headed back out. I got hung up, stalled and then buried the rear wheel on the way out. We had to lift the bike out of the soft groove that I dug, then I got restarted and made it up.

As we left, 2 fellows on "dirt bikes" were coming in and looked at us like we had no business in there on our bikes. They were probably right!

Getting ready now for the Adventure in VT!

The Puppy Dog Route

Our next great "Adventure" will be the VT Puppy Dog Route. It is a dual sport (dirt road run) from Greenfield MA up to the Canadian border. Basically it works out to almost 300 miles of predominately dirt roads traversing the entire State of Vermont. My friend Dave from New Hampshire and I are doing this together. We are both riding BMW F650 GS

Devised by a BMW owner from VT, he had been out west in the mountains on what was called "The Big Dog Ride". He had such a blast he developed this in VT to allow some of the same fun and challenges on a smaller scale, hence the name "Puppy Dog".

I have route sheets and a gps route so we are hoping to be able to Negotiate the route just fine. We are departing from my work Thursday afternoon of July 10th and riding to Greenfield where we are grabbing a motel room.

The southern section is from Greenfield MA to Allis State Park in VT. It is just over 160 miles and we will ride that on Friday the 11th of July, arriving and camping at Allis SP. This will probably be a 6 1/2 to 7 hour day depending on photo stops etc.

Saturday, we will break camp and do the Northern section which is 130 miles. This will be a shorter day than Friday and we are planning to camp when finished but have not determined our exact plan as some will depend on time of day, weather and how we feel.

I will have the Blog going and am planning to update via Jott when/if I have phone coverage.
http://rockynh.blogspot.com/

I will also have my SPOT Tracker on from Thursday at 1:00pm until my return home Sunday. With this you can actually follow along with me.. Typically if you see a tracking point, they are transmitted every 10 minutes as I travel. I usually will send a "manual" OK at major stops as I shut off the tracker for meals, arriving at a destination etc.

Eagle has landed.. Home

I am back home after my little 2 day trek. We had a good time and found some nice dirt and gravel roads to explore. Our weekend was not without a few little issues but nothing major.

First we encountered a problem when arriving at Monadnock State Park. The ranger informed us that they were full up at the campground. The good side was that he had just checked Greenfield State Park and they had plenty of available sites. They were maybe 20 miles back up the way we came.

On the way there, Dave took us on a side route to show me an area he has traveled in a lot. In doing so we passed some dirt roads so on the return I lead us down one of those. It was nice, a big loop around and we enjoyed the ride very much. Following that we headed to camp and checked in, then set up camp. It began raining as we headed to the village for dinner at the Side Trax Cafe. It looked to be an old train station and was full up with locals. We each had the haddock dinner, delcicious, full portions and a great meal. We decided we were coming back fro breakfast.

We left and stopped up the street at the store, by now the rain felt like a Hurricane. We decided to back up to the restaurant and sit at the counter with coffee, hoping it would let up. It did, but not much so after an hour we headed to our wet camp. Was not long and we turned in as the rain kept falling, in fact it did most of the night.

Morning came and it was damp, even a slight drizzle. We broke camp and went and found some dirt roads to ride for about an hour and then returned fro breakfast. After breakfast, we decided to head towards home but jump off route at every dirt road we found. Had some great riding and fun, and eventually arrived back home feeling good about our adventure. I think we are also better prepared for VT in 2 weeks.

Puppy Dog Route

This is the next Planned adventure. This is an off road route from the MASS border to Canada through VT. My friend Dave are planning to do this the weekend of July 11th and will depart on that Thursday for Greenfield MA, ride N to Allis State Park on Friday, Saturday we will contine North arriving in Troy VT at the Canadien border. Sunday will be a liesurely back road ride back to southern NH. This will be a tent camping adventure!

I have picked up a small dome tent and sleeping bag... Today is the "dry run" and Dave and I are heading out shortly for Monadnock state park in NH. We are loaded up as if we are doing the 3 day run and will grab some dirt and gravel on the way out. We will set up camp, spend the night, break camp in the morning and pack up to return home. This will show us how the bikes handle loaded on both on & off road condition. It will also tell us if we are "missing" anything we should have, need to revise our packing for ease of setup, and how easy we can set-up and break camp.

There is some rain possibilities for tonight... so that may be a "test" also.. :)

I will send a couple Jott updates and the tracking mode of SPOT will be on.

T Minus 3 and OOPS!

3 hours to go...
Minor update to my trip... Our companies Lawn service lost control of their large industrial Mower and ran it into my bike, knocking it off the center stand, breaking a turn signal, bending the handguard/barend bolt, rotating the entire left control assembly and scratching the mirror..

Engine Guard dinged (good thing it was there), left pannier scraped up pretty good, though it protected the bike. Concern about pannier frame... wanting that replaced with pannier.

Replaced TS lens from my buddies bike, straightened bar end bolt best I could and re-aligned the controls. Rode the bike and all seems ok... There is a mark in the GPS screen that looks like a bubble... That will have to be dealt with somehow.. its an older 2610..

They are supposed to make it all right... bike is rideable.. What a way to start a trip! I will sit down with them again on Monday when I get back to work.

Still on schedule for departure....

Final Packing..

Everything is just about ready now for the SMR run. I decided based on weather to try and wear my textile Tourmaster and pack my lighter mesh Tourmaster. As much of my travel is at night I thought that I better try and wear the heavier jacket for the trip down.

I really cannot pack it.. so I tried to pack the mesh in the panniers, got it in ok, with some slight "persuasion". My only concern now is that I may be too warm but there is also some rain in the forecast and the Transition jacket is also waterproof. I will look Wednesday after work to see if I can find a way to strap that to my Tail Bag should it get too warm on the way down or back.

I did find a couple other items I forgot to pack up so have gathered and/or made a list for them. Finally staging will be Wednesday night as I work at Liberty House Tuesday night.

I have ordered a Tail Rack for teh GS but it will not arrive until after this trip.

I will have SPOT along for tracking duties.... Feel fre to check in on SPOT from Thursday through Sunday.

SMR, Getting Ready!

The Summer Mountain Ride in West Virginia begins Thursday the 19th. This is another MTF event and I am looking forward to seeing bunch of old friends and meeting a few new ones.

The first 2 days are Dual Sport Guided and then Saturday is an open ride day. I will not be there in time for Thursday as I have to work but will be riding overnight so that I can join in Friday's Rough Road Ride..

It rained earlier this morning and so I did not ride anywhere. I packed up my clothes and hardware, checked the chain and lubed it, checked the oil and basically made the bike ready. I am taking the F650 GS, AKA Grasshopper... Its about a 700 mile trip and on the short windshield and stock seat it will be a tough jaunt down. Add in the riding overnight, well suffice to say I need to be extra careful. I do plan to be able to stop and snooze a couple times over night which will help.

I got my gps routes all completed and loaded. That includes my down and back, the MTF flower sniffer routes and some DS waypoints Andy sent me.

Thats about all for now... all is good and I am excited for the trip.

Dual Sport @ Cade

Today was the Americade Dual Sport Ride. I had a route sheet in advance and was able to get it all in the GPS before starting. It was about 95 miles on the first leg, finishing with a lunch stop. The 2nd leg was about 48 miles back to Roaring Brook.

I am a real NOOB on a dual sport so while this may not have been the toughest route in the world, I had a blast and learned alot. I skipped the 2 small "hero" sections and probably wisely so.. Both a 1200GSA and a KLR went down over the logs and broke some plastic.

There was probably around 20 bikes in this event. I was the only F650 GS, though there was also an F650 Classic. I also saw several KLR's, a half dozen larger 1150 and 1200 GS's, a single Vstrom 650, 2 KTM's, and smattering of other more dirt oriented bikes from 250 to 450CC

I am really looking forward to more of this riding and hope to find some nice areas in NH to ride also. The West Virginia SMR by the MTF is coming up in a couple weeks and I will be riding down for that... Both the seat and windshield need some work for distance riding but that will have to wait a while.

Ride along Lake Champlain

I am gonna do a little paved route up to Lake Champlain, cross over to VT and then some nice paved riding back to the the Village. It rained a little last night and it is slightly overcast this morning and cool.

Yesterday I spent most of the day at the Expo. Enjoyed the Twisted Throttle display with adventure riding stuff. Gave me some windshield ideas, looked at the Barkbusters (very nice), and some of there luggage and cases.

Picked up a Lee Parks tail bag and a Tourmaster mesh jacket. I did not buy them but think I found my boots in a pair of Tourmaster also.

Tomorrow is the Dual Sport ride. I stopped at the Holiday Inn to see if they still had openings and they did. I did not sign up at pre-reg as I did not have a DS Bike at the time. That will be fun and a learning experience.

Have a great day.. Time to get my boots on and Ride.

A Little Dirt...

I did some route planning today for a Dual Sport ride later in the week. Today I headed out in the morning along the Schoon River and managed to find a couple gravel roads along the river. I even managed to see a deer off in the field. (Later in the afternoon I saw another as she ran across the road in front of me.)

I went to check in at the Holiday Inn but the line was around the building and it was still 40 minutes so Iheaded back out again.. riding up to Warrensburg, checking out some vendors and grabbing some lunch.

I checked in later and picked up my packet., managed to visit Roaring Brook Ranch for the Gold Wing Drill Team and visited the BMW tent to see the new F800 GS. Its a real beauty, looks very rugged, yet is really too tall and too heavy for me.Back to the Flamingo... got some dinner and visited with the neighbors. Tomorrow the Expo opens and I will be visiting there after breakfast.

Ride safe...

Rolling Thunder

We just arrived back home from Rolling Thunder XXI in Washington DC. Leaving on Thursday, and returning Tuesday, it was a full weekend.

The Vigil Friday night was very moving and we were honored to have in our presence that night 2 daughters of men who gave all in Vietnam, Trish Burnett and Samantha Clough.

The demonstration run was great, well attended and think the government knows we are there and are not goinbg away until all our missing are accounted for.

There was a dampening of our spirits this year... Lisa Robicheau was killed in a motorcycle accident on her way to DC. She will be forever missed by us all. I am leaving shortly to attend the wake with the rest of the Rolling Thunder NH Chapter.

Xmas in May?

Well, that is what it seemed like... Monday my Govt Economic Stimulus check arrived.. along with my new Spot personal tracker and a package from Mike Kneebone and the IBA (my Cert for an SS 1000 run (1000 miles in 24 Hours) to Moonshine Illinois. I also got the cable to connect my gps up to the BMW "Baby GS".

Then Tuesday came and along with all else, my Caribou Adventure Panniers (Hard MC Luggage) arrived. This was exciting as I had been waiting for these and was anxious to get started mounting them. I worked that night so could not start until Wednesday.

Wednesday arrived, and so did the Title so I was able to register the GS and transfer my plate over. I also received my Ram mount to finish off the GPS mounting. First things first, we had to mount the Caribou pannier system. I was amazed at the quality and strength of the frame but especially how perfect it all fit together.

I also ran an add in Craigslist to sell my Shadow. I had several inquiry's and one fellow even stopped by work to see it.

Friday I rode the GS to work... first real day to ride it. It felt good and I loved the new panniers. I would recommend these to anyone. I had several more contact me on the Shadow and about 11:00, the fellow that looked at it yesterday called, and it is now SOLD!

Yes, I guess Xmas really can arrive in May!!

Let the Farkles begin!

Ok... as I wait for the title... I have been riding around the neighborhood.. slowly getting used to the bike (such a culture shock from the Wing!). I am enjoying it...

So far... I have started Farkleing plans and some purchases and parts should start arriving next week... The budget is limited after the bike purchase (and the expense of panniers) but that is ok, I will get the needed soon and the wanted later..

To Date:
Ordered Caribou Systems Panniers (Based on the Pelican 1550 Case (35L per side). Looked hard and long at all the options I settled on this for me... They seem to have excellent reviews and should serve me well for both off and on pavement

Have a Dakar windshield coming that is not the end but improved over the stock Non Shield. Depending on how I like it I may try adding a laminar lip later..

Already picked up a used BMW Tank bag... down the road, I plan to put a plug in that to add 2 electric taps outtside and one inside the bag. Planning to use Powerlet products.

Ordered a used set of BMW Hand guards from a guy parting out a machine that blew up the engine. (Later with replenished funds I would like to pick up the Bark Buster units)

Ordered a mounting base for my ram mount gps... I have the arm and cradle coming off the cradle.

Ordered a powerlet adapter cable to plug my 2610 into the available outlet. (Under the faring) It is a 90 deg bmw to cigarette lighter and will route up under teh the plastic to the handlebars. This will get me on the GPS quickly and work until I electrify the tank bag.. (much later in the super or a winter project)

I am also planning on ordering an engine guard and installing that before the SMR..

Yes, it looks like now I am riding the new beauty down to the SMR!! I am excited about that. There are other Touratech items, including chainguard, fairing guard etc and likely some new peg options after I ride a bit and determine what I need... that I will likely add as time goes along... Those are not needed to get me rolling ..

After SMR, I will need to finalize what I think I want/need for a WS and I KNOW I am gonna have to do something with this stock seat!! No surprise there..

Anyway.. guess I better go to work...

Got My Dual Sport!

Yes, I sure did.. Stumbled on a great deal on a 2007 BMW F650 GS down in CT, with only 850 miles. I bought it, and went down and picked it up with my trailer on Saturday May 3rd.

The following is the post I put up on the MTF (Motorcycle Tourer's Forum)
--------------------------
Ok, here it is... the "New" ride..................

2007 BMW F650 GS, a Dual Sport fun bike..Black with a whole 845 miles on it!! Yes thats it...Should still have warranty until sept 2009 (will check with my dealer)

Has the following:
ABS (switchable off)
Heated Grips (low and high settings)
Emergency FlashersCenter Stand
Arai Quantum Full face helmet.. fits me!
soft luggage (2 piece zip together by BMW, small bag fits on Rack, larger zips to it and fits on passenger seat - not bad, will use for now..)

The bike itself is basically stock and has had the 600 mile service done at the dealers. It will need the following ...
New taller & wider windshield
Pannier system
Engine Guard
Hand Guards
Aux Lighting
Likely seat upgrade (either aftermarket or have a custom guy I know tweak it) I will ride it a bit to decide...

Riding plans.. if enough gets done, may ride to Americade to see how much work seat needs, and hope to ride it to the SMR in June. Most likely will attempt my NH Instate 1000 on this bike to say I did ...

Local Riding and Riding...

I have not started my truck in over 2 weeks, riding to work everyday. That is a good thing with todays gas prices. Regular here is up over 3.40 a gallon. I did some local riding last weekend with Southern Cruisers north of me and am planning on a ride with another Chapter more local this weekend.

Yesterday I road with Rolling Thunder up to the NH Veterans Cemetary where we assisted the staff with their spring grouds cleanup. We had 22 people attend this.

I submitted a route to the IBA for an In State New Hampshire 1000. (1000 miles in 24 hours inside the state lines!) I had hoped to do this run in May but Veterans events, bike maintenance and out of town company will eat my time before I head off to RollingThunder XXI Memorial weekend.

I have decided to another bike. No, I am not replacing the Wing!! I have a Honda Shadow and am going to sell it and get a Dual Sport, a bike that is configured for both paved riding and rough/offroad riding. After much research and conversations with dual sport riders I have decided on the BMW F650 GS model. It appears to have the quality, proper mix of off and on road design and also the one that fits me the best. I am now searching for a used one to purchase.

Have fun everyone!

Post Moonshine..

I have been home from Moonshine a week now. I rode to work everyday since my return (its now been almost 2 weeks since I even started my truck)

Saturday I got out for a couple hundred miles also, heading up to Manchester NH for a meeting at Liberty House, then a leisurely ride up to Sanford Maine. The Rolling Thunder chapter in Maine had a Buffet Super fundraiser. It was a nice ride up and the meal was good, also great to see the people from the Maine chapter again.

Sunday, I headed up to Epsom NH and met the local Southern Cruisers group up there for their ride. It was a nice southern NH loop with a picnic lunch stop and finishing up at Johnsons Dairy Bar for iced cream. By the time that I meandered back home it was another nice relaxing 200 mile day.

Cannot forget the IBA stuff.. I completed all my paperwork for my SS 1000 (1000 miles in 24 hours) out to Moonshine and put it in the mail early Saturday morning. When I returned from my ride, I had an evnvelope from the IBA and suspected it was my Cert from the Jacksonville ride it. I was close, it was the certificate from the SS 1000 that I did on the return from Jacksonville. That was quite a quick turnaround too.

Thats about all for now. Will be riding to work all week and have no defined plans for weekend riding as my son is scheduled in to visit from CT.

Have a great day, ride safe and I will talk to everyone later.

April and Another Trip!

Yes, we have made it to April. The weather has still been touch and go, cold and even more snow this past week. I think that put us to a new Record for the season.

Surviving my last run (Jacksonville), I am getting ready for the Moonshine Run, a 1080 mile ride to Casey Illinois. I will be leaving on the 10th, around 1pm and riding straight through on another SS 1000 so that I arrive in time for the lunch gathering on Friday. We are going for the famous Elephant Ear sandwich at the Casey Airport.

Saturday is the main event, a ride to Moonshine Illinois, population 2... where we will be tasting the famous Moonburger! It appears to be 400 of us descending on the town!!

I will hit the road after lunch and visiting and start heading home. I hope to get few hours in and then get a room, finishing up on Sunday and hoping to only have 800 or so miles to get back. I learned a good lesson in JAX about doing an SS 1000 out and back without enough rest!! I was exhausted after that trip.

Need to finalize my route and papers for the SS and then get my stuff packed over the weekend.. Obviously, I will be blogging via JOTT and also have my tracking equipment running. I have checked the tracker today and all is operational, will check JOTT later on today.

Have a good day.....
